Review a venue or supplier contract
Upload a contract PDF or paste the text, and PlanHitch reads it for you: a short summary, the clauses that matter, which points to raise, which to check and which are fine, and the money and dates. The review is kept with the venue or supplier it belongs to. Free includes one contract review per wedding, and Premium and Unlimited include unlimited reviews. It is not legal advice.
Works on: Free includes one contract review per wedding. Premium and Unlimited include unlimited reviews. · Updated 26 October 2026
How to do it
- 1
Open the contract review
Open Suppliers, then Vendors or Venues. Select "Review a contract" at the top of the page. It takes you to the panel headed "Read the small print before you sign".
- 2
Choose whose contract it is
Under "Whose contract is it?", choose the vendor or venue. Each contract is kept with the vendor or venue it belongs to, so if you haven't added them yet, add them first. If you only have one, it's chosen for you.
- 3
Upload the PDF
Drop the file on the panel or select "Choose a PDF". The file must be a PDF of 10MB or less. It's read in the background: you'll see Uploading, then Waiting its turn, then Reading the clauses. You can leave the page while it works.
- 4
Or paste the text
If the contract came in an email or a Word document, select "Only have it in an email or Word? Paste the text instead". Paste at least 50 characters of the contract, then select "Read it". Pasted text is usually read in under a minute.
- 5
Keep the review
A review of an uploaded PDF is kept with the vendor or venue automatically. A review of pasted text says "Not saved yet": select "Keep with the vendor" or "Keep with the venue" to save it. If you select "Read another" before saving, PlanHitch asks you to confirm, because the review will be lost.
What comes back
At the top is a one-line headline, such as "Two things to raise and one to check before you sign." or "Nothing here needs raising before you sign." Below it is a short summary of the contract in plain English.
"The clauses that matter" sets out the clauses picked from the contract, with their section numbers. Amounts, percentages and time periods in each clause are highlighted so you can spot them quickly.
Alongside, each point the review flags says what it is and what to ask or negotiate. The most important points come first.
"Money and dates" lists the deposits, payments and charges the contract mentions, with the amount and due date where the contract gives one. An amount the contract doesn't give shows as "Not stated".
The three labels
Each flagged point has one of three labels.
Raise this: something worth taking up with the venue or supplier before you sign.
Check this: something to look at more closely or ask about.
Fine as it is: a term that's normal, so you don't need to argue over it.
If nothing is flagged, the review says so.
Where your reviews are kept
Each review is kept with the vendor or venue you chose. Open the review panel and choose the same vendor or venue: earlier reviews are listed under "Read before", with the name and date. Select "Open" to see one again.
When a review finds a deposit and you haven't entered one for that venue or supplier, PlanHitch fills it in for you. This happens for uploaded PDFs, and for pasted reviews you keep with a venue. It never replaces a deposit you've typed yourself.
How many reviews you get
On the free plan, each wedding includes one contract review per wedding. The panel shows "Your free plan includes one AI contract review, on the house." Once it's used, the panel offers Premium in place of the upload box.
Premium and Unlimited include unlimited reviews.
Reviews are counted per wedding on every plan. If your wedding moves back to Free after a paid plan, reviews you ran on the paid plan count towards the free allowance.
A review that fails, for example because the PDF couldn't be read, isn't counted. On any plan, a wedding can start up to 5 reviews an hour.
If the review fails
PlanHitch reads the text in the PDF. If it can't find any, for example in a scanned contract, the review fails with "Could not extract text from PDF". Paste the text in instead.
Only PDF files can be uploaded. For a Word document, copy and paste the text.
Very long contracts are cut to roughly the first 12,000 words before they're read.
Who reads your contract
The contract is read by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. The contract's text is sent to Anthropic's API, and the result comes back to PlanHitch.
PlanHitch uses Anthropic's API under its commercial terms, which say that what is sent through the API isn't used to train Anthropic's models. The privacy policy has the details.
It is not legal advice
The review reads a document and reports what it appears to say. It is not a legal review, it is not carried out by a solicitor, and it may not spot every fee, penalty, cancellation term or unfair clause. It may also describe one wrongly.
Use it to know what to ask. Don't sign a contract on the strength of it. If a contract matters to you, take proper legal advice on it.
Reviewing from ChatGPT or Claude
If you've connected PlanHitch to ChatGPT or Claude, you can paste the whole contract into the chat and ask for a review. The result shows as a card in the chat and uses the same review allowance as the app. A review done in a chat isn't kept with a venue or supplier in PlanHitch.
Questions
Can I review a supplier's contract, not just the venue's?
Yes. Use "Review a contract" on the Vendors page for photographers, caterers, bands and other suppliers, and on the Venues page for venues. Each review is kept with the vendor or venue it belongs to.
Does a failed review use up my free one?
No. If the review doesn't produce a result, it's handed back and you can try again.
Can I close the page while a PDF is being read?
Yes. A PDF is read in the background and the review is kept with the vendor or venue either way. Come back to the review panel and open it from "Read before".
Is the free review per account or per wedding?
Per wedding. The free plan includes one contract review per wedding.
Is this legal advice?
No. The review tells you what the contract appears to say and what to ask about. It isn't carried out by a solicitor. If a contract matters to you, take proper legal advice on it.
